Apr 26, 2008: OAuth Hackathon at Six Apart - April 12th, 2008 1:22 pm - Events
Get Satisfaction (http://getsatisfaction.com/) is organizing a meet-up to help coders wrap their heads around the OAuth protocol and do some code sprints to get their projects up and running with it. You can find more information about OAuth at http://oauth.net/ and even download libraries that implement OAuth in many languages (10 are listed as of this writing!).
Come out and meet fellow OAuth implementers, hack on your code, and start using OAuth. Your users shouldn't be entering their Gmail passwords into your app anyway, right?
Six Apart has generously offered their office space to us for the meetup. Get Satisfaction has a tiny office around the corner, but we're expecting a good turnout so we're happy to use their space.

Nov 2, 2007: Meet the newly outed Fake Steve Jobs, a.k.a. Forbes reporter Dan Lyons at Books Inc. in the Castro - November 2nd, 2007 9:41 am - Events
Meet the newly outed Fake Steve Jobs, a.k.a. Forbes reporter Dan Lyons, who will discuss the anonymous blog (http://fakesteve.blogspot.com/) that lampooned the real Steve Jobs, as well as Silicon Valley’s characteristic excess and his new novel, Options: The Secret Life of Steve Jobs, a Parody..
Welcome to the mind, to the world of Fake Steve Jobs. Fake Steve the counterintuitive management guru: “Obviously we can’t literally put our employees’ lives at risk. But we have to make them feel that way.” Fake Steve the political hobnobber: “I can see why they keep Nancy Pelosi under wraps. Wacky as a dime watch.” Fake Steve quoting friend/musician/philosopher Bono on road etiquette: “Tink about dat next toim yer cuttin off some bloke and you don’t know who it is, right? Could be Jay-sus. Or Boutros Boutros-Ghali or sumfin.” And on, yes, himself: “Geniuses have feelings, too.” In the tradition of Thank You for Smoking and in the spirit of The Onion, Options is a novelistic sendup and takedown of Silicon Valley, Hollywood, and Washington, D.C., as viewed by a central character who exists, to his immense self-satisfaction, at the crossroads of all three worlds: “It’s like in one of those movies where a guy realizes he’s got telekinetic powers and it’s just too bad if he doesn’t want them, he’s got them. Likewise, I have this gift. It’s who I am.”
Fake Steve Jobs is an award-winning writer of fiction and nonfiction with something of an insider’s knowledge of the high-tech industry. He decided to use his powers for good by starting up the wildly popular blog “The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs” (http://fakesteve.blogspot.com), which created the persona and voice for this novel.

Today, with 10 Stores and 200 employees, Books Inc. serves as a shining example that independent bookselling can survive and prosper, even if we must dance among the elephants.

Oct 21, 2007: Fiesta on the Hill, Bernal Heights Neighborhood at Cortland Avenue from Bocana to Folsom, Bernal Heights - October 21st, 2007 10:06 am - Events
Annual free street fair for Bernal Heights.
Bands: Sila and the Afrofunk Experience, Julio Bravo Y Su Orquestra Salsabor, Two Tall Drinks and the Bernal All Stars Brass Mafia, Judea Eden Band, Amy Meyers Band, and more free live music.
Fiesta has a small-town urban feel to it: Dancing in the streets to local San Francisco bands, a petting zoo and pumpkin-painting for kids, aroma from sizzling foods from many cultures, crafts and other street fair shopping, and a charming bake sale from Bernal seniors to support local seniors' programs. There are never corporate beer stands on the street for this fair, but several friendly Cortland Avenue bars are open if you want to duck in for something between bands.
It adds up to a colorful down-home fiesta in old Bernaltown. Cortland Avenue will be closed to cars for the day, but you can take the 24 Divisidero bus and it will detour around Cortland for the blocks near the fiesta. Actually, it only takes a few minutes to walk up from Mission Street or from Bayshore on the other side, for that matter.
